Saga Dawa is a powerful auspicious month in the lunar calendar because the Buddha is said to have experienced the five major events in his life.
1. conceived and Birth-Buddha was conceived by his mother with dreams of white elephant with six tusks entered his mother's womb indicating she had conceived. He was born in the gardens of Lumbini(Present country Nepal) to a wealthy family as a prince .
2.The great Renunciation-Buddha had luxurious life and was blissfult ignorant of many sufferings around him. But he understood the harsh reality of the world after his ride outside the palace which made him to free himself from lust, craving and desires.
3. The enlightenment-After meditating under the tree at Bodh gaya, he became the awaken one. He found the causes of human sufferings.
4.The first Sermon-After Buddha's enlightenment, he gave his profound knowledge on four noble truths to the five ascetics five monks at Sarnath(Varanasi District)
5.Buddha's Parinirvana- Buddha departed from his life while lying on his right side and supporting his head with his right hand into the state of mahaparinirvana on the 15th of day of the fourth lunar month at Kushinagar, India.
Therefore, accumulating meritorious virtue with purest heart can free all the sentient beings from sufferings and attain enlightenment. The month of Saga Dawa is known as Bumjur Dawa and auspicious for dharma practices and cultivating any meritorious actions with body, speech and mind because any virtuous and non-virtuous deeds is multiplied a one hundred thousand times.
Note: If you can't do meritorious deeds, atleast avoid non-virtuous.
Thank you Khenpo Kinley Tshering for sharing the wisdom on saga dawa. I am taking oath to avoid all the non-meritorious deeds.
