Coronation Day




Today, 2nd June is the Social Forestry Day. It was on this day in 1974, the people of Bhutan welcomed His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo on the throne. The youngest leader in the world at his time and to shoulder the abundant responsibility for the country and the people. Since 1985, the coronation day is declared as Social Forestry Day and this day has it's important role to play in all times to come. People across the country mark the day by planting trees to highlight the significance of people's involvement in the sustainable management of forest.
We should take pride in being a Bhutanese as we are blessed with a benevolent yet dynamic and farsighted leader under whose reign we have experienced an unprecedented peace and prosperity. His vision of Gross National Happiness is an epitome of love and affection that his Majesty radiates all over us.
   
Despite being a small country, Bhutan is an exemplary for the world in balancing conservation and utilization of natural resources.The fourth Druk Gyalpo, Jigme Singye Wangchuk promulgated the Royal Government of Bhutan's constitution to mandate sixty percent forest cover for all times. 
Planting tree is recognized as one of the most engaging environmentally friendly activities that people can take part in to better the planet. Some of the benefits of planting and conserving the forests are: 
It reduces the soil erosion. It provides oxygen for breathing and cleans our air.  Many species of wildlife depends on tree for habitat. It provides foods, protection and homes for many birds and mammals. It provides building materials. It cools the  environment and it generates income.
